Our God Is Undefeatable

Prophet Elijah proved his loyalty to God and shamed the hypocrite. The prophet challenged war generals to battle even though he had no war experience. He rained down fire on King Ahab's soldiers that aimed at arresting him. It is reported,

“The king sent to him (Elijah) a captain of fifty with his fifty men. So he went up to him; and there he was, sitting on the top of a hill. And he spoke to him: “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down!’” So Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” And fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty. Then he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty men. And he answered and said to him: “Man of God, thus has the king said, ‘Come down quickly!’” So Elijah answered and said to them, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” And the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty” (2 Kings 1:9-12).

Lesson:

God is great, God is strong, and God is powerful; no one can arrest God, and nobody can curtail his power. God is graceful and loving, but his anger is brutal! He could consume the whole world with fire and turn it to ashes within a second. If God stomps his feet in annoyance, the whole world would go disarray and suffer tremendous casualties. Therefore, all people ought to fear God and pay him due respect. We must pay tribute to God for utilizing his remarkable power to favor humanity. No one else should be due of human praises than God of gods and Lord of lords who resides in heaven and rules over the earth.

Moreover, since God remains invisible, people ought to respect his servants that are visible. God’s servants are his ambassadors confirmed with the right to exercise authority on his behalf. A person who has respected God’s servant has respected God. Also, a person who has disrespected God’s servants has equally disrespected God. No doubt that anyone who abuses God’s servant will suffer punishments from God.

Prayer:

Dear God, please teach me how to honor you and respect your servants. Do not let me disrespect you and your servants so that I would not be punished. Enable me to treat your servants well and respect them so that I can receive your blessings. Please let me fear you, and let me obey all your commandments so that I can prosper in the land of the living. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
