It Is Important To Have A Repentant Heart

Jeremiah lamented for Israelites having witnessed the consequences of their rebellious acts against God. Jeremiah cried,

“How lonely sits the city that was full of people! How like a widow is she, who was great among the nations! The princess among the provinces has become a slave! She weeps bitterly in the night, her tears are on her cheeks; among all her lovers she has none to comfort her. All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they have become her enemies. Judah has gone into captivity, under affliction and hard servitude; She dwells among the nations, she finds no rest; all her persecutors overtake her in dire straits” (Lamentation 1:1-3).

Lesson:

God awards a few consequences for human actions. Everyone - without exemption - is in danger of paying terrible consequences for his/her actions committed against him. God's penalty for sin may beat our imaginations since his action cannot be underestimated. However, the Creator will be willing to work with any sinner and see him/her repent to avoid penalty. Jehovah gives a window of opportunity for repentance and expects a sinner to take necessary repentant action. However, the Creator will not leave his door of grace open indefinitely, he will award punishment for sins and make unrepentant sinners pay dire consequences for their actions. Hence, it is profitable for every disobedient child to turn a new leaf and return to God with a repentant heart. God will honor those who submit and serve him with humility. He will respect repentant sinners; forgive their sins, and restore them into his divine purposes for their lives.

Prayer:

Dear God, please give me a humble heart to repent from my sins and make necessary amendments, so that I can remain your true child. I do not want to be a stubborn child who refuses to repent and get punished. I want to follow you wholeheartedly! Help me not to rationalize sin, but let me be honest in all I do in your presence so that I can be blessed. Please prosper and perfect all that concerns me. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
