Holy Spirit Helps To Triumph Over Sin And Weaknesses
God gave his commandments to Israelites with a conditional promise of blessing. The people would prosper if they obey his laws; however, they would suffer consequences if they disobey him. Out of 68 verses consisted in Deuteronomy Chapter 28, God used 14 verses to proclaim his conditional blessing; he used the remaining 54 verses to proclaim curses that would follow Israelites if they disobey his laws.
Some promises that are related to Israelites' obedience are as quoted,
"Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you because you obey the voice of the Lord your God: "Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country. "Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground, and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks. "Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. "Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out. "The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways" (Deuteronomy 28:1-7).
Some curses that are related to Israelites' disobedience are as quoted, "But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you: "Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the country. "Cursed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. "Cursed shall be the fruit of your body and the produce of your land, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks. "Cursed shall you be when you come in, and cursed shall you be when you go out. "The Lord will send on you cursing, confusion, and rebuke in all that you set your hand to do until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, because of the wickedness of your doings in which you have forsaken me" (Deuteronomy 28:15-20).
Lesson:
God's laws are made for humans' edification and blessing. That is, people who obey God's law will not lack good things, as their needs will be constantly supplied by God. Therefore, all people must follow God's rules at all times. We are not to only follow his rules at a convenient time, but we are to follow them at all times! However, Jehovah who made his laws presented in the bible will not fold his hands whenever people violate them. He will bless those who comply and punish those who fail to comply with them. Meanwhile, God is willing to work with anyone who falls short of his expectations. He will forgive whoever has violated his rule and genuinely repented. Also, God will help anyone who could not measure up to his standard by supplying them with his Holy Spirit. With the Holy Spirit at work, everyone - without exception - can triumph over sin and live an acceptable life before God.
Prayer:
Dear God, I understand you have a principle of blessing people who follow your commandments; therefore, I want to follow them. Help me to give all it takes to comply with your laws! Instill your fear into my heart so that I can cautiously walk before you always. Please let your Holy Spirit empower me to follow your established standard so that I can prosper throughout the day of my life. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.
