God’s Way Is Not Our Way

Saul was committed to his family and he was busy searching for his father’s missing horse, but God had a bigger plan for him. God instructed Prophet Samuel to anoint Saul and ordain him as the first king of Israel. The remarkable event unfolded thus:

“...Now the Lord had told Samuel in his ear the day before Saul came, saying, “Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him commander over my people Israel, that he may save my people from the hand of the Philistines; for I have looked upon my people, because their cry has come to me.” So when Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said to him, “There he is, the man of whom I spoke to you. This one shall reign over my people.” “Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, and kissed him and said: “Is it not because the Lord has anointed you commander over His inheritance?” (1 Samuel 9:15-17; 1 Samuel 10:1).

Lesson:

God’s ways are not our ways; he may decide to surprise us in a way that we have least expected. No human being can contain God in a box, and we cannot limit him by our limited thoughts. God will do whatever he has determined to do, and nothing can change his plans. Meanwhile, God’s thoughts towards his children are always good. He stated, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). However, God’s plans may not be fully filled in our lives if we work contrarily to his commandments. We must follow his agenda, and we must satisfy him before we can enjoy his ultimate goodness. Therefore, every believer must endeavor to satisfy God so that he or she can enjoy his tremendous grace and goodness to the fullness.

Prayer:

Dear God, please help me to stay within your plans so that I can enjoy your grace and goodness in my life. Enable me to satisfy you always, and let me remain fit for your blessings. Please, remember all your promises over me and let them materialize. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
