Do Not Be Hearers Only

We Christians are required to read and listen to God’s words and apply them into our lives, so that we can prosper. We are charged to utilize godly teachings and biblical principles to benefit our lives. The scripture stated,

“For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does” (James 1:23-25).

Lesson:

Any Christian who reads and listens to God’s word without applying it to his or her daily life is more or less a baby Christian! God requires that every Christian should grow and develop into maturity. However, Christian maturity does not depend on age. Spiritual maturity can only be obtained through consistent interactions with God. A Christian who intends to grow must pray and consistently study the word of God. Also, a maturing Christian must advance in evangelism. Mature Christians are determined to serve God at all cost, and they are not ready to exchange the conviction of their salvation for any earthly pleasure. Moreover, it is worth emphasizing that God cannot commit any significant task to an immature Christian. He would only perform wonders and do great things through confident and mature Christians.

Prayer:

Dear God, please let me grow up and become a mature Christian. Enable me to take Christianity seriously, and help me to be committed to it. Let me be consistent in my relationship with you, and let me please you in all my endeavors. Also, give me boldness to preach your gospel and represent you well on earth. Let me serve you well to qualify for your imperishable crown of glory in heaven. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
