Jesus Christ explained the real meaning of humility and said,
“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” (Luke 18:10-14).
True humility is not proved by words, it is proved by actions! All Christians are charged to be humble so that God can be pleased with us. We should prefer others to be as equally important as ourselves, and we should treat them with respect. Also, we should not prejudice anyone, but we should offer people a sense of values and help them to realize that they are honorable creatures made by God. It is also important that Christians make their petitions to God with respect. We should not pray with arrogance, but we should humbly table our requests before him so that he can grant the desires of our hearts.
Dear God, please make me a humble person. Let me honor you in all my activities, and let me respect other people. Enable me to give all people a sense of value and make them feel important in their world. I also pray that you teach me how to humbly present the gospel to all people so that they can believe in Jesus Christ and be saved. For in the name of your Son Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
