Acceptable Praise

King David had a lifestyle of composing songs and dancing before God; also love to express his prayers through songs. Meanwhile, in a rare moment, God hijacked David’s psalm and turned it to a prophecy. God expressed his frustrations over people’s nonchalant attitude towards his laws. The Spirit of God said,

“How long, O you sons of men, Will you turn my glory to shame? How long will you love worthlessness and seek falsehood? But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly...Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord” (Psalm 4:2-5).

Lesson:

God loves our praises, but he prefers that we remain righteous to him. We should not attempt to bribe God with praises while we are living a sinful lifestyle. God will not be moved by our pretense, he wants our genuine repentance! Hence, if indeed we do not want our praises to result in a waste of time, but we want God to accept them, we must remain faithful. God of heaven will celebrate us if we are loyal to him; he will bless us if we maintain a justifiable relationship with him.

Prayer:

Dear God, I want to offer you quality and acceptable praises at all times. Therefore, keep me fit for such a noble task. Let me maintain an honest relationship with you; help me to genuinely repent from my sin, and let me maintain a consistent relationship with you. I understand that I can only remain your true child through the help of the Holy Spirit, therefore bless me with your Holy Spirit. Let me live in peace and enjoy all your benefits throughout the days of my life. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
